As far as layout, graphics, and style goes, I think the adidas website is one of the best ive seen. The black background with the white text gives a feel of quality and discreet style. The various links and images found throughout the website help to bring a retro kind of feel, which is a market Adidas have largely involved themselves in recently. I also think the David Beckham 'Impossible is Nothing' advert is awesome. The way in which his childish and almost naive drawings are used really brings his iconic character down to earth and allows the viewer to relate to him. I also think the tagline is excellent and so so strong.

This is a really good example of a campaign that has been executed across multiple mediums. It is great to see the visual style and tone of voice from the advertisements used throughout the site, to continue and extend the users experience. I agree with you, the naive style of illustration is perfect for the concept and communicates the ideas of 'dreams', reminding you of when you imagined when you were small. It highlights how confident a brand Adidas is in that the user is not 'pushed' straight to a product page.
I've really got to disagree about this campaign Dave.
As far as fashion goes, childishness and naivity isn't something I want to be associated with.
Do you think this campaign is supposed to be aimed at us?
I think its meant to be aimed at anyone who aspires to be successful, in sport or otherwise. I agree I dont think the 'impossible is nothing' campaign is a fashionable one, its the style of the website in general that I think has a stylish feel. I just find this campaign in particular very good for promoting sports wear.
I personally feel the 'impossible is nothing' is a great statement to make from anyone, it shows you are confident in yours and others capabilities regarding hard situations. Because at the end of the day nothing is impossible unless you let it be.
I remember when this campaign was first launched and even back then i thought it was great, Muhammad Ali and Laila Ali were the main endorsers at the time, both showing great things they have come through to get to where they are, both having the same and different difficulties mainly race, gender and the sport. But a the beginning of the old website it began with these words -
'Impossible is just a big word thrown around by small men who find it easier to live in the world they've been given than to explore the power they have to change it. Impossible is not a fact. It's an opinion. Impossible is not a declaration. It's a dare. Impossible is potential. Impossible is temporary.
Impossible is nothing.'
I think that is so true as a statement, and its powerful. If everyone thought everything is impossible where would we be today..not on apple macs surfing the net wirelessly.
I don't see the problem with the childness and naivity, how was David Beckham to know the repercussions would lead to death threats. I think its nice to have the cartoons instead of images or a proper animation with clips of the events, its gives it a more personal feel of what they are saying.
